Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds. They're graded by the same institutions using the same standards — cut, color, clarity, carat. The only difference is where they came from.
A gemologist cannot tell a lab-grown diamond from a mined one without specialized equipment. Neither can anyone else. The crystal structure, hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), refractive index, and optical properties are physically indistinguishable. When you wear it, it looks and behaves exactly like a mined diamond — because it is one.
Every stone we offer comes with an IGI or GIA certificate documenting its grade across the 4Cs: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. These are the same grading institutions, the same standards, and the same documentation used for mined diamonds. Your certificate is your permanent record of what you bought.
The same budget that gets you a 0.8ct mined stone gets you a 1.5ct lab-grown stone of equal or better quality. That's not a compromise — it's an advantage. Lab-grown diamonds trade at roughly half the price of comparable mined stones, which means you can choose a more impressive size, better clarity, or a more elaborate setting without changing your budget.
Traditional diamond mining displaces communities, scars landscapes, and carries a complicated supply chain. Lab-grown diamonds sidestep all of it. No conflict, no displacement, no ecological damage. Just a beautiful stone, grown in a controlled environment, with a clean origin story you can tell without hesitation.
| Property | Lab-Grown Diamond | Mined Diamond |
|---|---|---|
| Chemical composition | ✓ Pure carbon (C) | ✓ Pure carbon (C) |
| Hardness (Mohs scale) | 10 / 10 | 10 / 10 |
| IGI / GIA certified | ✓ Yes | ✓ Yes |
| Visually distinguishable | ✗ Not to the eye | ✗ Not to the eye |
| Typical price per carat | ✓ ~50% lower | Market rate |
| Mining impact | ✓ None | ✗ Significant |
| Conflict-free origin | ✓ Guaranteed | Depends on source |
| Resale value | Lower than mined | Higher than lab-grown |
Note: Resale value for lab-grown diamonds is lower than mined — this is the one honest trade-off. Most engagement rings are never resold, but it's worth knowing.
A stone grown in a controlled environment, worn on a finger, for a lifetime.
The origin is cleaner. The story is just as good.
